Other than putting patients first, there’s not many things everyone in the NHS can agree on. But flexible working is something that NHS unions, employers and staff can all get behind.

Our campaign builds on the good will and hard work of people across the health service, from the efforts of the NHS Staff Council to secure strong flexible working rights; to initiatives by national bodies including NHS England and NHS Employers; through to brilliant achievements by individual Trusts and managers who have succeeded in shifting culture and attitudes to flex, and begun to reap the benefits.

By launching this campaign, we want to extend these gains to more people, so that everyone working in the NHS, whatever their role or reasons for wanting to work flexibly, is supported to do so.

We need your help to make it happen.

If you’re an individual wanting to find out how flexible working could help you, or a manager wanting to find out how to better support your team, we’ve got you. Use the information on different types of flexible working, flexible working rights, and examples of flex across the NHS on this site and in the resources to get started.

We know from talking to members that experiences of asking for flexible working can be inconsistent. If you’ve got a positive story to tell, we’d love to hear it. But equally, if you’ve come up against barriers or myths that are getting in the way of flex where you work, please tell us about it – so we can start to change the narrative.

You can get in touch with us direct at hello@talkaboutflex.org, or join the conversation on social media using the #TalkAboutFlex hashtag.

Add your voice to the campaign, and join the thousands of NHS staff who are helping to raise awareness of flexible working and create positive change for staff and patients.
