We know that access to flex is vital for people’s wellbeing, for building an inclusive and supportive culture, and to recruit and retain desperately needed staff – which all adds up to better care for patients.

With a standard on flexible working likely to be included in new staff standards set out in the NHS 10-Year Plan, now is the perfect time for employers to Get Ahead on Flex, and deliver on the promise of flexible working for every member of NHS staff.

Lead the conversation

Include flexible working options in every job advert, interview and appraisal, making flexible working the norm for all.

Set a target

Publish data about flexible working requests and a clear action plan for progress, owned by the Board.

Train for flex

Train every manager to support and champion flexible working.

Union reps across the UK will be leading the way locally, sending letters to their CEOs asking them to commit to the pledge.
